SOUNDSCAPE RESPONSE TO A PORTRAIT PAINTING BY JULIA HOLDEN, SERGEANT GALLERY, WHANGANUI

Meditation on Domesticity an audio recording inspired by Julia Holden's exhibition Her Indoors (September 2019) at the Sergeant Gallery, Whanganui. The expansive contemporary portrait show marked the 125th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage (after NZ women were the first in the world to gain the right to vote) and punctuated the end of Holden's artist-in-residence at Tylee Cottage, Whanganui.

Audio textures: The rhythm of weekend domestics appears as an ironic escape from a full-time desk job.

Music: Lost in Meditation performed by Ella Fitzgerald accompanied by Duke Ellington & His Orchestra (1957).
